St. Trinian's School for Girls

I recently saw a film and frankly I’m not sure how I came to be aware of it, I think I was googling something or other and it just appeared. I followed the YouTube link and before you could say Girl Power (!) I was riveted to my computer.

The movie left me in stitches though I have to tell you it’s not world class cinema, I never even heard of it before, the film is politically incorrect and I admit there were some parts I just didn’t get. But sometimes, you just go with it right? I loved it!

The film is St. Trinian’s School for Girls which came out in 2007. Ok, here’s a brief overview…St. Trinian’s is a boarding school for girls in the UK. There is a lot of free expression going on in that school of ungovernable young ladies (I use the term loosely) and the plot centers around getting the school out of bankruptcy.

Rupert Everett is hysterical to watch in drag as Miss Fritton the headmistress. The actor has said that he based his character’s look and manner on a certain member of the Royal Family named Camilla! Equally entertaining is Colin Firth who plays his role absolutely straight as the new education minister who makes it his goal to shutdown St. Trinian’s. As a side note it appears that the two have had a “thing” in the past as whenever they appear together on screen strains of Love is a Many Splendored thing can be heard in the background!

Rupert Everett as Miss Fritton and his inspiration...someone named Camilla!

Hmmmm, I think I see a resemblance.

I believe part of my attraction to this film comes from my stint at an all girl’s school and the uniforms that are a part of the culture. Unfortunately our uniforms were not nearly as hip as the girls from St. Trinian’s. Our outfits consisted of a white blouse, a blue plaid pleated wool skirt, oxfords (yes, the old black and white clunkers), oh and almost forgot…a full white slip. You better believe a slip was a part of the uniform because we had inspection every morning. If we were honest, and I admit to this, those of us who went to Star of the Sea were always a bit jealous of the girls from Sacred Heart’s as they had that cute white middy top with the navy tie and navy blue box pleated skirts as their uniform * BIG SIGH!*

Trust me, we would never have been allowed to dress like this at Star of the Sea!

Perhaps we would have gotten more dates if we dressed like this for sports!

Here is a clip from the sequel St. Trinian's 2

My love of school uniforms aside, I hope you all enjoyed your 4th of July holiday!

Have a great week!

  2. Oh this dolphin is just the cutest creature!!! If I could swim, I would jump in and play with these sweet giants! BONNIE! Thank you for coming to visit with me! I have missed you so very much! We had such a great time in California with everyone. We spent the first 3 short days up in Northern California with some family and it was a magical event. Then down to L.A. and saw the gang of family and school friends and blogger pals Penny, Debbie and Bunny. What a wild hoot. We laughed so darn hard that it is a memory that will always be so special. However, it would have been even more special if I could have met you....I thought of you as we drove into Riverside many time to see Ruben's brother and I would see signs that directed towards San Diego. Both Ruben and I wanted so badly to hunt you down. I have to say that the only thing I did not enjoy was the climate. My allergies really acted up and the driving to Riverside was claustraphobic (bad spelling) and the dessert scene is just not for me. All in all however, this visit prompted me to really think about making more of an effort now that we are in a better position to do so, to fly out more often. I only wish that my family could come to see us once in a while. HEY! This movie review is awesome! If it is a British movie, then no wonder it has its appeal. Ruben and I love our collection of funky and weird but absolutely funny and brilliant British flicks. Both of us just recently saw "In Brugs" with Colin Farrell. HOLY COW, THAT WAS KILLER GOOD and funny, quirky and totally British. "Hot Fuzz" is another British fav and we hoot and hollar everytime. Check 'em out when you can.

Well dearest and "oldest" blogger friend, I have certainly missed you and I do hope all is well. Please contact me when you can and let me know the scoop. This is going to be a very busy summer because we are going to be adding on to our home, FINALLY! We are speaking to the contractor today or sometime this week to finalize the dates.

    Bisous, Anita
