I Love Sunflowers

I love sunflowers!

They are happy, always smiling and they follow the sun.

A little background: When I am walking with Sadie we sometimes come across a woman named Graciella who speaks no English and I no Spanish. Nonetheless we always nod and wave and exchange hellos and buenos dias. She wears a big floppy hat to shade her beautiful porcelain skin and she pushes a shopping cart full of soda cans.

The story: This past Saturday we met up and she had a huge painting of a sunflower in her cart. I exclaimed that it was beautiful and she told me someone had given it to her. I told her it was so pretty and she was so lucky. Then she asked me if I wanted it. What? Did she have to ask me twice...but I told her no, no it was a gift for her. She crossed the street to come over to me and handed the painting over and said please you take. What could I do but thank her profusely!!! I felt so lucky and blessed!

The painting: It is a pretty straightforward oil painting of a sunflower. There are a few little glitches in the painting and it doesn't look like it's quite done, but because of my love of sunflowers it is the most beautiful thing. It's imperfections make it all the more beautiful and it's an original!

I call it Graciella's Sunflower

A certain kitty knows a photo op when he sees one.

Snooze it up Senor Gato!

Wishing you a great day from San Diego!

  1. I love the kindness of strangers! What a sweet story. Thanks for sharing, Bonnie. That painting will earn some mileage as visitors comment upon it. And has earned a soft spot for the grace of Graciella. Happy Tuesday!

  2. Dear Bonnie! Wow...what a day I had. School started with teacher meetings and in-services. I just got home to see this gorgeous find! What a sweet lady to give you this sweet painting! It has a chic air to it and what a perfect flower for our dear Bonnie....sunny, bright and beautiful! Bisous, Anita (P.S. how is the writing going? I'm here, ready and excited to see what you've got cooking up!) Anita

  3. Hi Bonnie,

Thanks so much for your comment. I actually saw the "Anne" movie before I read the books. I was in my 20s when I first read them, but I was immediately smitten. Now my 12 y-o daughter is loving them.

I love this post and your painting... sunflowers are such happy flowers!

    Blessings,
    Christi

  4. Hi Bonnie,
The painting has a great graphic quality and lots of energy. The very nicest thing about it is the story of how you came to own it. It says so much about the warmth and kindness you project to cause a nodding acquaintance to feel motivated to give you a gift of original art!

    Congratulations.

  5. Hello Bonnie,

I love the painting! I too love sunflowers and that picture certainly grabbed my attention. What a generous woman Graciella is! I came by way of Barb at The French Elements and am glad I stopped by.
