The last dregs of summer

The sun was out today in full force.

It was hot and humid, the perfect setting for doing my favorite household chore, the laundry. Believe it or not there is nothing I like better than doing laundry. I enjoy the whole process from sorting, washing, hanging the clothes on the line (for me, preferable to the dryer), and folding. When I hang the laundry to dry, my only focus is on hanging like items together, i.e. all the bath towels in one spot, sheets together…you get the picture. I’m a little anal that way but actually concentrating on this activity frees up my mind and I find it a relaxing experience.

All neat and tidy

My other fun activity around the house is ironing. Bear in mind that the less ironing the better and I really do check for wash and wear items when I’m out scouting for new clothes. But like the laundry, I find ironing a relaxing experience.

Martha and I share something in common!

Things I don’t like…dusting, cleaning the bathroom and washing dishes. Much like dust, I’m not sure where all the dishes come from. I’m just one person after all with a dog and a cat but believe me I always have more than my fair share of dishes in the sink.

Speaking of ironing, I must mention that my cat has taken up a new hobby, lying on the ironing board. I’m going to guess that the ironing board cover is a cool place to be during the hot summer months. He’ll stretch out and take a snooze, occasionally falling off though it doesn’t seem to faze him. Sometimes in the middle of the night, I’ll find him just sitting by himself on the ironing board. Just sitting and meditating, I’m assuming, like some wise old sage.

It's amazing what you'll find when you google cats on ironing boards!

And so speaking of cats, I leave you with this little funny of cats with thumbs. You’ll enjoy it!

Now that you've had your giggle for the day, enjoy a tall cool glass of lemonade and what's left of summer!

Enjoy your week!

  4. Hi Bonnie
Oh what a HOOT!! Love your cat on the ironing board... teeeheee... Great video too! Are you looking forward to some fall weather? I sure am.. About done with this horrid heat.. 112 yesterday...
    Enjoy your day dear friend

  5. Your post brought sweet memories of my mother. She loved doing laundry and ironing!! Even though she had household help she never turned that duty over. Her clotheslines had to be taut. First she did whites, then lights, and lastly the dark colors. Like items hung together. She also judged people in the neighborhood on how they hung their laundry. I think she would have liked you.

  6. Hello,
I visited your blog tonight - I saw you on Castles, Crowns, and Cottages. Aren't Anita's posts wonderful? Your blog is so pretty, colorful, and charming. I love the saying on your side bar "Life is Beautiful." The picture of Brigette Bardot is lovely. Me and my daughters just started a new blog, and we would love it if you could visit us and follow. I would enjoy coming back to visit with you - your blog is so cheerful. I hope to hear from you, and have a sweet evening.

  7. What is it about goddam dishes? They're like mould - never stop growing! Whereas like you, I really like laundry and when I've hung it out I like to stand back and admire my "handiwork". Ironing is another I like doing especially while watching an old movie - just don't watch one with subtitles - ouch!! xo

  8. BONNIE!!!!!

Look at that KITTY!!!! Dearest, how are YOU???? Are you working? Well, I go back on Tuesday and I have so much to do before then....but just wanted to come to visit you. THank you for your visit and Rabbit Hill is delightful. I don't think you came to my OPEN HOUSE back in June but our new addition is really making life a lot easier. Ruben has his space to write and I have mine. AND we can now have more people over at a time for gatherings!!

I wish you a lovely fall....ours is not quite here, but by the end of October, we will be in full swing.

Sending you much love dearest Bonnie! Anita

I'm a bit like you with my laundry - I hang like items next to each other so when they are dry they can be put in the right places next to each other hehe!
