Kim from
The Victorian Parlor recently commented that she liked the name of my blog! It made me so happy and I thought back to last February when I started this blog at my sister's suggestion. I couldn't imagine what I would have to say but somehow, for almost a whole year, I HAVE found something to say!
Ok, does this sound familiar...
Diamonds, Daisies, Snowflakes, That Girl
Chestnuts, Rainbows, Springtime is That Girl
She’s tinsel on a tree - She’s everything that every girl should be!
Sable, Popcorn, White Wine, That Girl
Gingham, Bluebirds, Broadway is That Girl
She’s mine alone, but luckily for you if you find a girl to love,
Only one girl to love, then she’ll be That Girl too.
Yes, I was inspired by That Girl showcasing Marlo Thomas.
I LOVED That Show, I mean That Girl! This was still years before Mary Richards (who I also adore) "made it after all."
The series was set in New York and featured aspiring actress, Anne Marie. She was independent, exuberant, full of life, had her own apartment, wonderful family and friends and a fabulous boyfriend, Donald Hollinger, who was a reporter for Newsview magazine. Donald provided a dry wit and was a safety net for all the wacky and goofy situations Anne would find herself in.
Like getting her toe stuck in a bowling ball!
Donald and Anne met in the very first episode in 1966 and were engaged when the series ended in 1971. I probably would have enjoyed seeing the happy couple get married (as I was and still am a sucker for a "happy" ending) but Marlo Thomas didn't want to send a message to young women that marriage was the ultimate goal.
Each show started out with a little teaser of Anne Marie getting into some kind of predicament and with someone always exclaiming "...that girl!"
I think this hat is just as famous as Mary Richard's knitted beret!
Forget the turkey, concentrate on the dress, it's sooooo MOD!
Speaking of outfits, I just discovered while online that Marlo had her own line of fashion with McCalls Patterns. I am surprised I don't remember this as I was quite the seamstress in my younger days!
Strolling down Broadway full of hopes and dreams and an anything's possible world.
Thanks for the memories Marlo and Anne!
