My Cherie Amour

When I'm in the car, I listen to 105.7 The Walrus. They play great oldies and recently they played a song that is an all time favorite of mine, My Cherie Amour. I love Stevie Wonder, I think he is an awesome creative genius.

The song was originally recorded in 1966, but not released (it was subsequently remixed for release in 1969). Co-written by Wonder and the songwriters-producers Henry Cosby and Sylvia Moy, the song was an autobiographical account by Wonder about a woman he was fascinated with while in school at the Michigan School for the Blind. Here is that song told in pictures and verse.

My Cherie Amour

My cherie amour, lovely as a summer day

My cherie amour, distant as the milky way

My cherie amour, pretty little one that I adore

You're the only girl my heart beats for

How I wish that you were mine

In a cafe

or sometimes on a crowded street

I've been near you, but you never noticed me

My cherie amour, won't you tell me how could you ignore

That behind that little smile I wore

How I wish that you were mine

La la la la la la, La la la la la la
La la la la la la, La la la la la la

Maybe someday, you'll see my face among the crowd

Maybe someday, I'll share your little distant cloud

Oh, cherie amour, pretty little one that I adore

You're the only girl my heart beats for

How I wish that you were mine

La la la la la la, La la la la la la
La la la la la la, La la la la la la

Boy this song really does take me back. Ok, now turn off the volume on my playlist and click on this YouTube video of Stevie Wonder from 2008 singing my Cherie Amour in a London concert. You'll see that I'm not the only one who loves this song!

Have a happy Sunday!

  1. BONNUS! OH....this is an awesome post. I remember when this song came out; I must have been in 6th grade. It turned my world upside down. I was ugly, the only Mexican in the school, I was "changing" and liking boys, and it was a mess.....but this song lifted me up and gave me hope that one day I would be someone's Chèrie Amour!!! Hey, I will be posting Miss Moussie's Travelin' Show later tonight, so youv'e got your tickets waiting for you at Bebe's little green "guichet". Snacks? DID SOMEONE SAY SNACKS? Anything Miss Paisely desires!!!!

    Bisous, Anita
