Sunday in the Park with Sadie

Awwww....

I love this amusing photo!

Here is my take on the picture...

Not quite the same is it?

Sadie and I are off for our walk this morning and you won't believe it but it is very foggy this morning. It's cool but not cold. I would have been perfectly fine in shorts in fact there were many people out this morning in shorts and a t-shirt.

The photos were taken around 7:30 this morning but the fog will be burning off soon and I predict blue skies by 10.

In the meantime, Sadie and I wish you the best Sunday ever!

Good Will Hunting

Not quite sure why I haven't been on the hunt lately, thrift hunting that is, but I finally broke out of my rut on Friday at the Goodwill on Rosecrans (if you're in the San Diego area). I didn't get much, three items but I was amazed at how big the store was, how clean it was, how reasonably priced everything was, and how nice everyone was...I really could go on. But let me show you what I got!

Well, first of all I wanted to showcase my friend Jan's portrait of the Lovely Sadie, my sweet companion for about eight years now. Jan had seen a picture I took of Sadie, wanted to paint it and there it is, all framed out and ready to hang on the wall in a place of honor.

I collect tea pots and one day I'll do a post of my collection but here is the latest addition, an English cottage, at $4. I thought it was a deal. The slip on shoes are by Bandolino and were only $6.99, barely worn, no tread marks on the soles, the insides were spotless, and not a scuff mark to be seen. I'm surprised I got these shoes because I'm not really into two-toned shoes but I rather liked this pair and it was in pristine condition. As for the flip flops, I couldn't resist the pink flowers and they were brand spanking new, never worn at $1.

I love thrift hunting, you just never know what you'll find. How about you?

Have a great Sunday everybody! Sadie sends her regards.

PS - and if you're wondering about the great animal print box, I got it at Ross's a couple of years ago. It was $10 for a series of 5 nesting boxes.

Goodnight Sweet Prince - Winner Revealed

What a night mes amis!

It was the big reveal of Act IV of Goodnight Sweet Prince by our dear friend Anita of Castles Crowns and Cottages.

I was caught up in an evening of bright lights, red carpets and celebrities, oh yes they were all there. Even Monsieur Balzac putt putted his way over to Le Petit Théâtre de Chimères.

In the theatre, lights dimmed with anticipation as we were about to see Camille Benoit's play, Goodnight Sweet Prince in its entirety. When the delightful play came to its conclusion there was much buzz amongst the spectators especially myself, Jacqueline and The Dutchess. You see, we three entered Camille Benoit's contest to complete Act IV of her wonderful play. Tensions were high as Camille, aka Anita, took to the stage to announce the winner. And the winner is....OH MY GOSH...it was me! My world started spinning.

Here, I am back in my seat with my Castles Crowns and Cottage's Playwright Award. What in the world did I say as I accepted my award? I am blank, I cannot remember a thing! All I can tell you is I am awash in the fun, honor and excitement of winning the award.

And the parties afterward! Canoodling with celebrities like Johnny Depp, Brad and Angelina and this bit of yum, Daniel Craig! I flirted shamelessly and was in glamour heaven. But the long night turned to day and I was off to the Castles Crowns and Cottages chateau where I promptly fell asleep under the stars by the pool.

When I awoke, I made a quick dash to my room to refresh and went back to the pool where refreshments were layed out for all to enjoy.

For some reason, I was ravenous! The lovely Anita and a few friends were already enjoying the repast and we were told not to take too long because we were shortly to cruise on Anita's lovely vintage yacht. It is called the Tres Jolie - very pretty, yes?

More food, more libations, sparkling conversation, a little sun, it was a lovely afternoon my dear ones.

I cannot remember a more marvelous weekend! I am still spinning from the honor of winning the Castles Crowns and Cottages Playwright Award. I encourage all of you to enter next season! Our lovely Anita is always brimming with creativity. Thank you Anita for a wonderful time.

All this because of one special little dog!

Goodnight Sweet Prince!

I love the 80s Videos

Welcome to the 80s - In no particular order, I would like to present a few of my favorite TV videos from that fabulous decade of big hair and shoulder pads!

Love Shack - The B52s
Here's a shout out to Debbie in Georgia
See if you can spot Ru Paul in this video

Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
A totally non-sensical song but lots of fun
This one's for you Heidi!

I Can Dream About You - Dan Hartman
One of my fave songs from Streets of Fire

Walk Like an Egyptian - The Bangles
This song goes out to my niece Jamie who loved the Bangles and to Gina
who is literally Walk(ing) Like an Egyptian

Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears for Fears
It's quintessentially 80s and reminds me of the Brat Pack

Prince Charming - Adam Ant
A terribly campy video but I loved Adam Ant
I think Johnny Depp channeled Adam Ant for Capt. Jack Sparrow
Everybody do the Prince Cha - ming!
Anita! Notice the harp!

Billie Jean - Michael Jackson
From the Motown 25th Anniversary where MJ debuted the Moonwalk

There's such a great catalogue of music from the 80s that it's impossible to cover in one post so we'll have to do a part 2 or even 3. Let me hear from you. What were your fave songs from the 80s and I'll try and find it for you! I'm taking dedications!

I Love Sunflowers

I love sunflowers!

They are happy, always smiling and they follow the sun.

A little background: When I am walking with Sadie we sometimes come across a woman named Graciella who speaks no English and I no Spanish. Nonetheless we always nod and wave and exchange hellos and buenos dias. She wears a big floppy hat to shade her beautiful porcelain skin and she pushes a shopping cart full of soda cans.

The story: This past Saturday we met up and she had a huge painting of a sunflower in her cart. I exclaimed that it was beautiful and she told me someone had given it to her. I told her it was so pretty and she was so lucky. Then she asked me if I wanted it. What? Did she have to ask me twice...but I told her no, no it was a gift for her. She crossed the street to come over to me and handed the painting over and said please you take. What could I do but thank her profusely!!! I felt so lucky and blessed!

The painting: It is a pretty straightforward oil painting of a sunflower. There are a few little glitches in the painting and it doesn't look like it's quite done, but because of my love of sunflowers it is the most beautiful thing. It's imperfections make it all the more beautiful and it's an original!

I call it Graciella's Sunflower

A certain kitty knows a photo op when he sees one.

Snooze it up Senor Gato!

Wishing you a great day from San Diego!
